MarsEdit IRC Channel

March 12th, 2007

This is an experiment and we’ll see whether it takes, but if you want to chat about MarsEdit with myself and other passionate users, join us on irc.freenode.net in the ##marsedit channel (note it’s important to use the TWO ## as the beginning of the group name).

Daniel, I’ve never understood the ## convention in irc. How does #marsedit differ from ##marsedit?

    Thanks.

  2. Daniel Jalkut Says:

Chris: It has to do with the policies of the freenode.net IRC server. They reserve the “single-hash” groups for groups which fall into a certain definition of non-profit or community-oriented groups.

  3. John Poole Says:

I’ve found freenode.net a bit strange when it comes to non-open-source software; strange enough that I didn’t even bother trying to set up a channel there for Geekbench. Have you considered setting up a channel on different network that’s less, well, anal? :)

  4. Daniel Jalkut Says:

John: I didn’t because FreeNode is the only one I’m regularly on. Considering another one would have been a lot harder than simply /join’ing a new group and registering it :)
