Core Intuition Episode 3

June 21st, 2008

Manton and I are still at it. We’ve heard the feedback, some of it lukewarm, some of it intentionally discouraging, but most of it extremely enthusiastic.

We’re proud to announce the immediate availability of episode 3, where we talk about WWDC, MobileMe, iPhone 3G, and a bunch of relatively unrelated stuff.

Check us out!

    Briefly… content==good, audio==needs work.

    Playing this back on my iPhone, hooked to the stereo in my Scion (the upgraded Pioneer one with the iPod integration), I have to turn the volume up almost all the way to hear it, and this isn’t a wimpy stereo. Also, the volume level varies from segment to segment, and occasionally there’s a bit of sibilance. I would suggest applying level compression paying attention to the final output gain, and possibly tweaking the eq settings.

    If you are doing this in GarageBand and can post the project files somewhere, I’d be happy to go over it, and suggest some exact settings…

    Thanks for the advice! I will pass this along to Manton who is doing the (mostly awesome, I think!) job of editing…

    Oh, the **editing** is fine… it’s just the mixdown that needs a little adjusting.

    Thanks for the offer. Unfortunately we are using Soundtrack Pro, not GarageBand. If you still want the file I’d be happy to send it. No real secrets there. :-)

    The volume is something we know we need to work on a little. Expect it to continue to improve each episode as we get feedback and test on different audio equipment. I did pay closer attention to levels on this one, but it was also rushed since we wanted to get the WWDC reaction out as soon as possible.

    I’d love to hear what you think of episode 4 when it is posted, either in comment here or to feedback@coreint.org. Thanks again!

    Daniel, sorry to hear about you receiving intentionally discouraging feedback. Don’t let them discourage you (read: don’t give them the satisfaction).
    Haven’t heard CI Ep 2 and 3 (I’ve been busy) but I’m sure the quality will improve as both Manton and you gain more experience in this endeavor.

  6. Manton Reece Says:

    Chris, thanks for the feedback. Daniel isn’t completely serious about the “discouraging” feedback comment. It will make sense when you listen to episode 3. :-)
