ME2 crashes after posting an entry

edited September 2007 in MarsEdit
I just purchased a license for ME2 and wouldn't you know it, it crashes after posting a new entry. The entry will post and I get the growl notification. Then ME disappears and I get the OS X "app quit unexpectedly" box.

It happens every time now. Before entering the registration info, I was able to publish a couple of test entries with no problems.

I messed around with the perfect preview, but other than that it's a stock install.

Here's the error log if I hit the "Report..." button on the app quit unexpectedly box.

I wouldn't be surprised if I messed something up somewhere.

[Trimmed by Administrator - The Crash is above]

  • Whoo hoo! First crash report for 2.0 :)

    Thanks for sending the crash log - it will help give me some clues about what might be happening. I suspect, since what you're doing is so basic, that something happened with your weblog configuration in MarsEdit, and it's throwing it for a loop somehow.

    Could you send me a copy of:

    [Home] -> Library -> Application Support -> MarsEdit -> Weblogs.plist

    Then you might try deleting (in MarsEdit!) your Weblog and then re-adding it. It will get you a fresh start and hopefully will make MarsEdit happy.

  • Here's my weblogs.plist. I'll delete my blogs in MarsEdit and try again. I have 3 configured in MarsEdit, 2 Movable Type and 1 Vox. MarsEdit crashes no matter which one I post to.

    Thanks for looking into this. I'll try what you said and report back.

    [Edited by administrator - Turns out this was not the culprit]
  • Hmm - the fact that it's happening with any of the blogs sort of kills my theory a little bit.

    I'll take a closer look at the crash log. If you're deleting all the weblogs anyway, it might be worth a "clean slate" and remove:

    [Home] -> Library -> Application Support -> MarsEdit

    [Home] -> Library -> Preferences ->

    Really sorry about this inconvenience.

  • I think that I figured it out. I added to the ping list in MarsEdit. I don't know why, but in the plist it looks like this only for the feedburner ping...

    It listed the url 3 times inside of the string tags.

    I deleted feedburner from the ping list, quit and restarted ME2, and readded it. Now it looks normal, and I don't crash anymore.

    I guess that doesn't help figure out why it happened in the first place, but it's working like a dream now.

  • I'm really glad you figured this out. It would have taken me forever to suspect the pings!

    Maybe I can reproduce the crash by setting my pings list up with the repeated urls in the entry. In any case it shouldn't have been crashing!

    (I'm going to trim the previous posts a bit so the flow of this thread reads better).

  • Truthfully, I wouldn't have noticed, but the forum auto-linked the extra urls and made them stick out like a sore thumb.
  • MarsEdit 2 also was freezing up for me until I saw this message and turned off all my pings (Technorati and

    So seems like a larger problem than just the feedburner pings?
  • Thanks waywest, can you tell me the exact URLs for your Technorati and pings?

    I think may have changed recently in a way that adversely affects MarsEdit. I'm still investigating this.
